Additional Highlights of the 2007 Season

The 2007 Season

☼ Our Third Annual Triple Threat (Yardsale/Free BBQ/Movie night) was a raging success! Not only did it evolve into the first annual Quadruple threat with the addition of an amazing bake sale, but the garden welcomed over a hundred and fifteen people, and raised over $650. Thank you to all gardeners who came and gave their time, energy and their culinary efforts. We could not have had such a wonderful event without you. A special thank you to Nicole, Ingrid, Suzanne, Pete & Allen who stepped up to organize respectively the yard sale, bake sale, bbq and movie showing. Also a special shout out to Dave, Lon and Emerson who grilled the garden into greatness.

☼ We welcomed ten groups of school children from our neighboring P.S.11 into the garden for "Tours of the Five Senses". Special thanks to gardeners Mark & Hannah, and gardener Sarah's mother Gwen for working with the kids and thanks to PS 11 science teacher, Ms. Robyn Tomasselli for organizing the visits.

Hollenback took part in the 2007 BQLT Bike Tour, both as riders and as a host garden. Special thanks to all of the event's organizers, especially our own Marisa & Sarah!

☼ We were able to create two Welcome Gardens outside of our gate, on the sidewalk, complete with benches and corner markers built with stones excavated from the hole dug for our composting toilet. Our thanks for the generosity of the Washington Avenue Block Association for their donation and the Independence Community Foundation for grant in helping us with this project.

☼ Our garden was one of dozens of sites throughout the city to take part in first annual city wide Make Music New York festival. Special thanks are due to Allen for organizing this & to I-Crisis for embodying the rock gods that they are and playing in a lighting storm!Listen to I-Crisis.
